Program of the Month - Project EAGLE

A Fun Day Out

Project EAGLE Community Programs took over 75 mothers, fathers, and their children to the Pumpkin Patch in October. Field trips foster language development through literacy-rich environments, and are an important learning tool that can supplement and reinforce home visiting and classroom learning for children and families.

A Groundbreaking Occasion

Project EAGLE Community Programs celebrated the Children's Campus of Kansas City Groundbreaking on October 7th. The Mission of the Children's Campus of Kansas City is to assure that children birth to five years of age who are most at risk for academic failure access the resources they need to succeed. This will be accomplished by agencies working together to support the health and well being of over 1,500 young children and their families each year. Agencies representing the fields of early care and education, family support, health and mental health, research, and the arts will co-locate on the campus and build a system of services that address the multiple needs of young children and their families. Additionally, campus programs will link these families to other agencies in the community. Mayor Joe Reardon, Representative Dennis Moore, Chancellor Robert Hemenway, Mary Cohen, and Bill Dunn, Sr. were just a few of the dignitaries present at the Groundbreaking.

Parent Leadership Conference

Four Early Head Start parents and the Co-Managers of Family Partnerships attended the Parent Leadership Conference in Topeka, KS October 24th and 25th. This providd the parents with a great opportunity to meet and socialize with other Head Start families as well as learn valuable leadership skills, including public speaking. They all had a great time and learned a lot!
