Mental Health

Social and Emotional Development

An integral part of a person's health is their mental health, otherwise known as social and emotional health.  Infant and early childhood mental health is not about babies lying on a couch telling their problems to a psychiatrist.  Infant and early childhood mental health is about the development of primary relationships, emotional capacities and self-regulation.  Head Start programs support children and families in encouraging the development of strong, caring and trusting relationships as a foundation for later development.

Early Childhood Mental Health Services Project

KHSA is in the beginning stages of developing various stakeholder groups as a part of a collaborative project to work on planning for more systematic funding to support early childhood mental health supports for children and families.  There will be an opportunity for you to learn about and give input into this project.  If you would like to receive email updates to learn more please sign-up for our "Disabilty & Mental Health" email list.
